LRP
on the Role of the Economy in the 2006 Elections:
A Post-Election
Analysis
November 30, 2006
Partners Celinda Lake and Daniel Gotoff
> While the economy took a backseat in the 2006 political debate, the issue nevertheless
played a front-and-center role in voters' minds as they cast their ballots
on Election Day. These two pieces analyze public perceptions of the economy in
the months preceding November 7th as well as on Election Day itself. Lake and
Gotoff argue that neither Party has yet advanced a credible vision for a prosperous
21st century economy that works for all Americans. They further argue that,
in an era when the income gap between multimillionaires and the American middle
class continues to grow exponentially, the Democratic Party's decision to ignore
the issue is not only fiscally dangerous, but politically foolish.

Post-Election 2006 Analysis Slide Presentation

Partners Celinda Lake and Daniel Gotoff
> The 2006 midterm election was a national referendum on President Bush, corruption
in Washington, the war in Iraq, and the economy. Key to winning was nationalizing
the election early and keeping it focused on a national message.
Women
in the 2006 Elections
November 13, 2006
Partners Celinda Lake and Alysia Snell
> Politically, 2006 was the year of the woman. As women voters secured victory
for Democrats at all levels of government and women leaders take on new roles,
the impact of the midterm election is women's expanding influence. Women came
back to the fold this year, as they tipped control to Democrats and determined
the victor in the three closest Senate races. Looking to the future, women
approve of the Democratic legislative agenda and are eager to see the results
of their votes for change.
Medicare
Part D Insights
November, 2006
Partner Michael Perry
While the country struggles with the health care system
and Americans continue to rate health care as a top
domestic priority, new research shows the public wants access
to electronic personal health information. They believe that
online access could increase the quality of care, as well
as increase health care efficiency by reducing unnecessary
and repeated tests and procedures. However, Americans remain
very concerned about privacy and security issues around such
access.
LRP has been tracking the experiences of 35 Medicare beneficiaries
across the country to explore experiences with the new Medicare
Part D prescription drug program. The most recent report,
the third in its series, finds that drug plan enrollees generally
say that they are satisfied with their drug coverage and
have not encountered major difficulties using their chosen
plan. At the same time, many of them don't fully understand
how their plan works even after nearly a year of experience
with this new benefit.

Health
Care in the 2006 Elections
November, 2006
Partners Celinda Lake and David Mermin
> As part of a large ongoing project for SEIU/Americans for Health Care,
Lake Research Partners conducted national research, as well as surveys of voters
in states across the country. LRP helped AHC connect to voters, who are mostly
insured, through their intense concerns about rising costs and build message
bridges that linked expanding coverage and rising costs. Our research helped
AHC in their groundbreaking campaign in which they have signed up nearly 500,000
health care voters to date. In November, we conducted a national election night
poll of voters, the second poll in a series begun in November 2004. Our research
demonstrates that the issue of health care was important to voters and continues
to grow in salience.

LRP
on the Role of the Economy in the 2006 Elections
October 30, 2006
> Despite Americans' dissatisfaction with the national economy, the issue
-- as a focus of political debate -- is taking a backseat in the 2006 elections,
as it has for the past several cycles.

June, 2006 >
With many Californians now signed up and using Medicare Part D, a new study reports that individuals who need it most may be having the greatest problems using the program and, overall, confusion and lack of understanding continue.

particularly residents in the underserved neighborhoods that border the river, to understand how to engage them in efforts
to restore the Anacostia River.
